My Dental Home – Guidelines

Dental implantology is a modern dentistry branch that discusses replacing missing teeth with artificial protheses fixed to the jaws. Indications for dental implants have gradually changed over the past two decades from completely lacking teeth cases to partially edentulous ones presented in many dental offices. According to most dental implant patients, despite the expensive treatment, the price is worthwhile.
Implant-treatment indications
Replacing missing teeth and supporting tissues with artificial teeth has always been human aspiration and a desperate challenge for both patients and dentists. Besides functional problems, tooth loss can lead to some mental problems due to low self-assurance and flagging social activities, thus significantly affecting one’s quality of life. New sophisticated treatment methods, such as implantology, have enabled dentists to perform treatments that were once considered unacceptable. A dental implant is the choice treatment to replace missing teeth with artificial protheses fixed to the jawbone. While implant treatment may often be an expedient substitute for conventional treatments, in some cases it is the first treatment of choice to restore severe anatomical and functional problems , mainly in severe atrophic mandibles. Over the past two decades, indications for dental implants have gradually shifted from totally absent teeth cases to partially edentulous ones, which were in line with rapid technological advances in implant designs and materials. visit
Implant benefits
Implants offer several advantages over similar treatments. Besides looking and functioning like normal teeth, dental implants replace a tooth without harming neighboring teeth. A conventional bridge, the other common tooth loss treatment, requires cutting neighboring teeth tp to support the cemented bridge. A dental implant preserves the bone. With a conventional bridge, the bone around the tooth becomes resorbed. Dental implants blend with jawbone to keep it intact.
An implant is more esthetic and cleaner than a conventional bridge. Gums can regress around a bridge, leaving a visible defect when bridge collar is exposed. Resorbed bone under the bridge can cause an unattractive smile. Additionally, the bridge-fixing cement can wash out, allowing tooth decay. Therefore, briefly, implant benefits include:
• Restore aesthetics
• Restore dental loss
• Space maintenance
• Occlusal stability
• Practice
• Bone preservation and prevention after tooth loss
Implantology stages
This care consists of stages:
• Patient assessment
• Treatment plan
• Implant placement
• Phase of integration
• Restaurant treatment
• Maintenance stage
First, it’s embedded in the jaw. The implant and bone are fused together over the next 8 to 24 weeks to form a replacement tooth anchor. Over the implant site, a temporary tooth replacement option can be placed. A second step of the procedure is often needed to expose the implant and attach a metal post called abutment to complete the base on which the new tooth will be placed. Gum will heal for a couple of weeks. Some implant systems (one-stage) use an implant already attaching the extension part. Finally, the abutment will be crowned and attached. After a short time, the patient will experience restored confidence and ability to masticate and speak.
