Before beginning a home remodelling project, here are some basic preparation tips.

Are you looking for some pointers on how to begin remodelling your house? Maybe you’re just getting started on a home renovation? In any case, the National Association of Home Builders is a fantastic place to get great advice. Browse this site listing about General Contractor

For example, did you know that adding a room or two to your house can easily take months? Granted, a “simple” bathroom or kitchen remodel should only take a few weeks, but I’ve heard of cases where a simple kitchen remodel took nearly a year to complete. Now, I’m not trying to scare you, but prior to embarking on a home remodelling project, it’s a good idea to focus on planning. The National Association of Home Builders’ website has a lot of information on this topic.

As a result, it’s important that you set aside enough time for a remodelling project, consult with your contractor, and create a timeline for when you can expect your home remodel to be completed. Before you begin construction, you must also obtain the required building permits. If these preliminary steps have been completed, consult with your contractor again and schedule a daily meeting, whether by phone or in person. This will allow you to stay on top of any problems and monitor your progress to ensure that everything is proceeding according to plan.

You will also want to discuss any products that may need to be custom ordered during these meetings, as you may want to manage any custom orders for your home remodel yourself. Be sure to provide ample time for the goods to be ordered and shipped, as certain items might be back-ordered or need additional processing time if they are custom (for it to be built).

Set some guidelines for the employees! Most people don’t think about this until it’s too late.

For example, you may want to let them know if it’s okay to listen to the radio at work. What types of music do you listen to? What is the maximum volume that the music can be played at?

What about the parking situation? Are there any clear places where the workers’ vehicles must be parked? Are there any places that are off-limits?

How do you feel about people using your facilities? Is it okay for them to use your toilet, and if so, which one? If you’d like the construction company to provide you with a portable toilet (this is not recommended, but it is an option).

What about using your phone? Is smoking permitted anywhere on your property?

As you can probably see, discussing these issues before staff set foot on your premises is a smart idea. This will help to avoid any misunderstandings and possible conflicts between the staff and yourself…

So, now that you’ve gotten that out of the way, you may want to inform your neighbours that you’ll be remodelling your house. It’s a good idea to let them know what kind of remodelling you’re doing (exterior, upgrades, interior, etc. ), how long the project will take, and how long the staff will be on the job. You want to make sure you’re not bothering your neighbours by having staff hammering away on the outside of your house at 8 a.m. So make sure you set some time aside and that everybody sticks to it!
